The Getting Ahead model is a transformative, co-investigative workshop that empowers individuals in poverty to investigate their life, identify barriers, and build resources for long-term stability. Rather than prescribing solutions, the facilitators are co-investigators that help the group recognize and shift from survival mode to abstract thinking by building resources for a more stable life.
This Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead initiatives provide wrap around supports while ensuring individuals become engaged and accountable for their own success. The model moves beyond short-term fixes to create lasting change that breaks generational cycles.
During the Getting Ahead workshop, tools are provided for “investigators” to support the shift from a just-getting-by world to a getting-ahead world. There are no lectures, only co-learning through “investigating” the past and a future life to build essential resources for stability. Upon graduation, investigators have developed a future story along with a new network of supports to reach it!
Getting Ahead is implemented internationally as part of the Bridges Out of Poverty model, which is a transformational look at poverty through the lens of economic class. The Bridges framework educates both the resourced and the under-resourced with the same language; improving individual relationships and engagement, organizational and business outcomes, community collaboration and systems that help everyone to get ahead.
